Itulah mesej yang dikirimkan oleh sahabat OB, Bro Achid ke grup 'Whatsapp' memaklumkan perjalanan kembara dua roda beliau bersama isterinya ke Saigon, Vietnam merentasi 4 buat negara Asia Tenggara. Selamat berangkat ke destinasi yang dirancang buat Bro Achid dan isteri. Kami mendoakan agar perjalanan musafir Thj Achid dan isteri sentiasa berada di dalam perlindungan Allah SWT dan dipermudahkan segala urusan sehinggalah selamat kembali ke tanah air. InsyaAllah.
Beberapa hari sebelum trip Saigon ini, Bro Achid ada berkongsi mengenai perancangan dan persiapan trip beliau ke Saigon ini dengan saya. Dengan izin, saya akan berkongsi catatan harian perkembangan kembara Bro Achid di sini. Semoga pengalaman Bro Achid sedikit sebanyak dapat memberi panduan untuk pengembara-pengembara kental dua roda yang memasang impian yang sama untuk mengikuti jejak beliau. InsyaAllah.

"As Salam, update untuk Day 01 of Ride to Vietnam. Bertolak jam 1139 from home in BTHOnn. Break for fuel and refreshment at Sg Perak RnR Northbound at 1340. Continued at 1509 and encountered extremely heavy rain whilst approaching Jawi until almost zero visibility. Arrived safely at T-Hotel in Changlun, Kedah at 1745 covering a distance of 478 km in about 6 hours. Wassalam."

Hari 02 (01/02/2017): Changlun, Kedah, Malaysia- Chumphon, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day 02 of Ride to Vietnam. Bertolak jam 1145 from T-Hotel, Changlun for Bkt Kayu Hitam border checkpoint. Upon entering Thailand border at Dannok, Sadao, a huge crowd of people are queuing to enter the Thailand. Wasted 2 hours to clear Thai Immigration and Customs. Quickly proceded to ride to Hat Yai and to Phattalung. Had refreshments and Solat Jamak Zohor and Asar. Proceed to Surat Thani on the Segenting Kra area. Arrived safely at Gardens Hotel in Chumphon at 2215 covering a distance of 546 km in about 9 hours. We are 1,032 km from home. Purchased Thai SIM Card for my wife as free WiFi seems to favor only SIM card of Thai origin."

Achid's guide on crossing Malaysia-Thailand border on a private motorbike (for Thailand side):
1. Buy insurance (bike) for travel in Thailand
2. Fill-out 'Customs Declaration Form for Motorcycle' to get a temporary import paper for the bike
3. Fill-out passenger manifest form and inform that exit point to be at Pong Nam Ron Immigration Office, Ban Thap Sai, Chanthaburi.

Hari 03 (02/02/2017): Chumphon-Bangkok, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day 03 of Ride to Vietnam. Bertolak jam 1145 from Gardens Hotel, Chumphon for Bangkok. After Solat Subuh, had breakfast provided by hotel. Checked tyre pressure and sure enough, kena pam tayar cos' jalan from Suratthani to Chumphon was very bumpy. Proceed to Prachuap Kiri Khan and stopped for refreshments and Solat Jamak Zohor and Asar. Met with a group of 6 Malay boys riding LCs on their way to Mae Hong Song (1k corners ler). Later, we passed thru the site where recent floods washed away the main highway bridge and had to be replaced by 2 Bailey bridges. Arrived safely at Park Village Rama ll Hotel in Bangkok at 2210 covering a distance of 447 km in about 10 hours. We are 1,479 km away from home. I also had to purchase Thai SIM Card (+660917839XXX) for myself - mana lah tau kalau ada yang rindu....."Achid@03/02/2017 13:09

P/S: I just realised that you are overnight at Chon Buri which is not in the itinerary/plan due to 'dugaan' di Bangkok. So, an additional day in Thailand before border crossing into Cambodia. Semoga selamat sampai ke Chantaburi.

Hari 05 (04/02/2017): Chon Buri, Thailand - Battambang, Cambodia
"As Salam, update untuk Day 05 of Ride to Vietnam. Bertolak jam 1015 from By-Pass Hotel, Chon Buri for the Cambodian border. Rest stop for lunch and solat Zohor and Jamak Asar at Wang Chan. Weather was very hot and dry and need to rehydrate constantly. Arrived at Thailand side Customs and Immigration (C&I) at Pong Nam Ron at 1645. Some delays on Thai side and proceeded to cross into Phsar Prum, Cambodia(a Cowboy town). Passport matters were O.K but we "kena pau" 100 Baht each. Customs explained about bringing in personal vehicle and was told to be very careful as there's no road insurance in Cambodia. Rode in the night and arrived safely at King Fy Hotel in Battambang, Cambodia at 1955 covering a distance of 350 km in about 10 hours but mostly dealing with C&I matters on both Thailand and Cambodian sides(3 hours). Cambodia flag can be added in your collection of your personal achievement in SEA Overlander Expedition (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos) with motorbike officially. Any Tiger Explorer from Malaya has done it before? Wait till you crossing Vietnam..

"As Salam, update untuk Day 06 of Ride to Vietnam (coincidentally it's my 54th birthday). Bertolak jam 1108 from King Fy Hotel, Battambang, Cambodia. We travelled along the beautiful shores of the Tonle Sap ΔΊake. Again, the weather was very hot and dry and need to re-hydrate constantly. Traffic in Cambodia drive on the right-hand side (macam di USA). It seems that drivers here were born with the headlight high beam switch in their hands as they FORCE on-coming motorcylist to give way. Gua kena mengelak so many times along the entire way (sampai lost count), kalau tak mengelak, kita mampus (I am so pissed-off - pardon the language). Had birthday late lunch of local dishes at Kampong Chhnang. Had to deal with 3 km of HORRIBLE existing road re-construction (no road diversion) just 20 km from the hotel (the right side horn bracket broke pulak). Arrived safely at New Paragon & Skybar Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia at 1900 covering a distance of 289 km in about 8 hours but We are 2,277 km away from home." Achid@06/02/2017 08:15

Hari 07 (06/02/2017): Phnom Penh, Cambodia
"As Salam, update untuk Day 07 of Ride to Vietnam (it's one day after my 54th birthday - masih boleh lagi wish HBD, heh, heh). Today, we went local attraction sightseeing by tour operator and was driven around in a Lexus RX300 (duduk seat belakang lagi, terasa macam tauke). Again, the weather was very hot and dry and need to re-hydrate constantly. We visited the famous Killing Fields, the torture prison S-21 and the popular Russian market known for its local handicraft, local cloths, local fruits and delicacies. Had a refreshing young coconut juice and 2 ripe pineapples which only costs USD 2.00. Was driven around town to see the other major monuments before the start of the evening rush hour. Reached hotel at 1545 and enjoyed a much needed rest until dinner time. Wassalam."Achid@07/02/2017 09:35

"As Salam, update untuk Day 08 of Ride to Vietnam. As I had earlier mentioned that this ride was not a question of distance or my endurance but a matter of BUREAUCRACY. We were allowed into Cambodia with our motorcycle with the condition that we exit the same location. If I wanted to exit at Cambodia's Bavet checkpoint to enter Vietnam at its Moc Bai checkpoint, I was told by the Cambodia Customs that I had to make a formal request to Cambodia's Department of Tourism to enable me to go into Vietnam and re-enter Cambodia. As it would take days to get approval, I had to agree on the earlier offer, at least I can ride until Phnom Penh. Therefore, I am renaming this trip as Ride to Phnom Penh, Bus Ride to Saigon, heh, heh(I tried my best). Departed Phnom Penh at 0830 and reached Saigon at 1530. Esok, we want to take it easy and just walk to nearby attractions. On Thursday, we are going for morning tour of Saigon until lunch time. On Friday at 11.30, our bus departs from Saigon for Phnom Penh. I am taking a break from updates until Saturday. Wassalam." Achid@08/02/2017 08:20

Hari 12 (11/02/2017): Phnom Penh - Battambang, Cambodia
"As Salam, update untuk Day12 of Ride to Phnom Penh, Busride to Saigon. We started the ride in Phnom Penh at 1330. We arrived at Battambong at 1900. Our journey took 5.5 hours. Again lepas repair horn bracket belah kanan di Phnom Penh pagi tadi, horn bracket belah kiri pula (yang repair di Changlun) patah. Nasib baik ada lots of rubber band. So, esok pagi pukul 8, kena cari workshop dgn tuk-tuk driver.
Dinner aper? Kami makan Maggi Hot Cup jer, lepas tu nak cari buah. Esok kami nak depart for Phsar Prun border checkpoint at 1300(lepas Jamak Zohor n Asar). However, esok travel tak jauh, tidur di Pong Nam Rong."Achid@12/02/2017 00:16

Safe trip to Pong Nam Rong
Hari 13 (12/02/2017): Battambang, Cambodia - Chanthaburi, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day 13 of Ride to Phnom Penh and Bus ride to Saigon. We left Battambang at 1330 and arrived at Phsar Prum border checkpoint at 1515. Stamped passport on Cambodia side and obtained detailed procedures to bring personal vehicle in and out of Vietnam thru Cambodia. So lain kali SURE no problem. Rode into Thailand side of border. Delayed for 2 hours due to their staff unfamiliar with dealing with Malaysian-registered vehicles (maklumlah checkpoint tersorok atas gunung). Check-in hotel at 1915. Had dinner and rested. Travelled 134 km but endured continuous terrible road conditions for 4 km in Cambodia. So far, we have clocked 2,738 km. We will enter Bangkok tomorrow for a 2-night stay with my friend. Hari 14 (13/02/2017): Chanthaburi - Bangkok, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day14 of Ride to Phnom Penh and Busride to Saigon. We left Pong Nam Ron, Chantaburi at 1100 (after a nice specially prepared halal breakfast and local-harvested buah mata kucing!) and had a fuel stop at Chon Buri at 1345. We continued on to Bangkok when suddenly at about 1615, a near-miss occurred. The rear tyre struck an object on the road and immediately blew-out(punctured). I was doing over 100kph but managed to apply the front brake sufficiently as to not cause the bike to crash. Syukur ke hadrat Illahi dan juga BERKAT doa sahabat-sahabat sekalian telah melindungi kami dari nahas buruk. The bike steering was almost out of control, we could have crashed badly dan dilanggar by the speeding heavy vehicles zooming from behind! Na' u zubillah! The bike rear tyre was completely flat when it stopped in the emergency lane. Fortunately, it was right in front of a car tyre shop. Managed to cross over the highway barrier and limped to the shop. The car tyre shop removed the tyre and found that it was too badly damaged and beyond repair - kena tukar tayar baru! I called up the bike tyre shop when I changed the front tyre 10 days ago and Alhamdulillah, the replacement tyre is available. Made arrangements to send it over from about 85 km away thru Bangkok's traffic. We were delayed by about 3 hours by this near- miss incident but better late than never. Arrived at my friend's home in Sukhumvit 71 area in Bangkok at about 2030, cleaned-up, had dinner and rested. So far, we have clocked 3,012 km. We will tour Bangkok by its BTS (macam KL's MRT ler) today and also some window shopping (cannot buy anymore stuff, no more space on the bike!). Wassalam."Achid@13/02/2017 09:45

Hari 16 (15/02/2017): Bangkok - Chumphon, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day 16 of Ride to Phnom Penh and Busride to Saigon. We left the Wattana area in Bangkok City at 1216 and stopped for fuel and Solat Zohor and Asar Jamak at Samut Sakhon at 1430. We continued on to Hua Hin Rest area at 1620. Next, we rode to Prachuap Khiri Khan for our final fuel stop at 1900. Alhamdulillah, we arrived at our hotel in Chumphon at 2130 without much drama. We rode for about 9 hours in very hot direct sunlight and covered 482 km. Ordered room service as we were too tired to venture out for dinner. We have travelled 3,514 km. Hari 17 (16/02/2017): Chumphon - Hatyai, Thailand
"As Salam, update untuk Day 17 of Ride to Phnom Penh and Bus ride to Saigon. We left Chumphon (near the Kra Isthmus area) at 1154(after again repairing the left side horn bracket which was already repaired twice (once in Changlun and once in Phnom Penh) - shows how rough the road is in the rural areas of Cambodia and Thailand. We rode almost 500 km today through sunny skies and then heavy rain in Surat Thani area just before Maghrib. Three fuel, solat and rest stops later, we entered Hat Yai. Arrived at Hansa JB Hotel in Hat Yai at 2030. We cleaned-up, had dinner and rested. So far, we have clocked 3,515 km. We will do some light shopping tomorrow morning before leaving Thailand after solat Zohor and enter beloved Malaysia at Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint. Wassalam." Achid@16/02/2017 23:44
